I’d like to congratulate Shaw Carpet for a great idea with this new blue Lifeguard carpet and spill proof backing system for carpet. We at Bock’s Steam Star are fans of this advancement and have conducted field testing at the local Shaw Flooring dealer expo. We were made believers! We think this style of backing makes so much sense and could be the norm for carpets in the future. It helps so much in pet odor and allergens if we can contain it in the face fiber. Our deep cleaning systems and pet odor removal systems are great but we must still contact the soils, allergens and odor sources to be effective. This will also save consumers money because less labor and less product are needed to restore. When pet urine, allergens or any substance goes subsurface, it is much more costly to remediate. There is also no longer any need for a moisture resistant pad which will save some cost as well. The pad savings, the saving of labor and products and the benefits of cleaner carpets to the overall health of the indoor environment should outweigh any nominal increase in initial cost. Take it from an IICRC Certified Master Textile Cleaner with 30 years experience, this is a good advancement and one the consumer, especially with pets and or allergy issues, should consider. We don’t sell it, but I must tell it!
